Alt_Violin

This project for the Oberlin Community Music School was designed to see if students and parents would be interested in building and playing a low-cost alternative to the traditional violin that is nearly acoustically and ergonomically identical. By taking away some of the complex carving as well as expensive materials a successful sounding version was made that could prove to be more accessible to young players and help them get a music education of their choosing. Alt_Violin kits were made and over the course of 3, 2 hour sessions each participant made and took home an Alt_Violin.  The cost of each kit is approximately $100 but can be brought down with scale. Furthermore the process of building the kit themselves and understanding more about the mechanism means they could potentially repair minor or even major issues in the future.
